Ruth is responsible for implementing the strategic direction from the Board of Directors and ensuring that the quality of the teaching and learning is exceptional. On her team is the Quality Assurance Manager and the Heads of Departments for English and Business. They work closely together to create a pathway from education to employment and to ensure that all learners achieve their full potential. “The greatest pleasure I get from my job is bumping into graduates years after they have completed their studies and hearing them say that I played a role in their success today.”
Ruth’s ultimate goal is to build and develop close links with industry. “This is important because we need to ensure that our curriculum is current and aligns with industry practice, the industry views NZIE as a leading provider of vocational programs, and the quality of it graduates is exceptional”.
Ruth has worked in tertiary education in New Zealand, Australia, Taiwan and Brazil for over 24 years. Most recently she was the CEO of Yoobee School of Design. Ruth has a Bachelor of Music (Composition) from the University of Canterbury, a Masters of Business Administration from MacQuarie University, Sydney, and Ruth is currently studying for a Masters in Digital Education through the University of Edinburgh (online).
Ruth is a proud mother of two children aged 9 and 12 and she enjoys watching them grow and learn. Much of her spare time is spent doing activities with the kids, travelling, exercising and enjoying the outdoors. “Although I have travelled a lot and have spent many years living overseas (Canada, West Indies, Taiwan, Brazil, and Australia) – I still call New Zealand home.”
