Throughout my experiences as a digital marketer in New Zealand, I’ve been extremely fortunate to have met many of the country’s best digital marketing professionals.
Among them are business-movers, mind-shakers and growth hackers, Mark Hayes and Paul McCarrison of Rocketshp. Rocketshp is a digital and creative marketing agency whose philosophy is mainly based on driving results and ROI. They’ve partnered with high-growth companies based in the US, UK, Hong Kong, and some Kiwi business and have grown their traffic, leads and sales in highly significant ways.
What’s even more amazing is Rocketshp’s work has been featured in news sites like Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, and Wired UK, just to name a few. Rocketshp is also one of the very first growth hacking agencies in the world, and Mark wrote one of the best books on growth hacking, too– Kiwis, be proud!
This start-up is definitely one to look out for.
I got a chance to chat with Mark and Paul about all things digital marketing and here are some of the things I learnt that I’m so excited to share with you guys!
There’s no denying that the Digital Marketing industry is growing exponentially. We have to accept that we will always need to keep up with the latest trends and technology. With an industry so agile, we, as digital marketers, need to be agile as well.
Rocketshp piece of advice: Be more forward-thinking. Be more flexible. Take more risks. Make decisions faster.
In an industry where change is inevitable, we must always be interested. We have to be interested in what is happening now and what is emerging. Because technology is not always created equal for all, we have to be interested in experimentation. Don’t be afraid to test out new tech, and learn from trial-and-error. It is clear that a persistent interest in all things digital will be key in providing the best solutions to cater to organisational problems.
Rocketshp piece of advice: Be extremely passionate about the industry.
A career in digital marketing means for a constant learning experience. I absolutely agree with Paul when he said that, “The Digital Marketing industry is not where you can just do one qualification and work 15 years with that as a backup.” We have to learn, to adapt, to change and to grow the entire time in the industry.
Rocketshp piece of advice: Constantly upskill. Train yourself for new skill sets. Don’t be static, and grow with the industry.
