My name is Jenni.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I am solopreneur.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

I have a Virtual Assistant (VA) business.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

And I specialise in the Digital Marketing arena.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

I upskilled to study digital marketing later on in my life, in my fifties.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Before study I got introduced to social media marketing (SMM) by a friend. But that was at the very early stages of SMM in New Zealand. However this person had a product and I wrote to bloggers asking them to write reviews in exchange for products. Subsequently I fell into the position of Marketing Manager and found myself managing social platforms. Consequently I didn\u2019t know what I was actually doing and if I was doing it right. In contrast, I knew I wanted to learn more about this industry so began considering how to get started.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

How come you choose to study digital marketing with NZIE? <\/h1>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

I knew it was something I needed<\/span>,<\/span> to update my portfolio and not be left behind.<\/span> Previously <\/span>I <\/span>had <\/span>dipped my toes into a <\/span>two-day <\/span>short course and loved the content <\/span>and<\/span> what I learnt. <\/span>From<\/span> there<\/span> I did some research and saw that NZIE offered <\/span>a part-time Digital Marketing Diploma.<\/span> As a result,<\/span> I eventually signed up <\/span>with NZIE and started<\/span> the evening <\/span>classes<\/span>.<\/span> Additionally, <\/span>I was a mature student with no degree so was unsure if I<\/span>\u2019d<\/span> get accepted.<\/span> Furthermore I w<\/span>as working full time<\/span>.<\/span> However<\/span> I really w<\/span>anted <\/span>t<\/span>o learn more about websites and <\/span>digital <\/span>design<\/span> from a marketing perspective.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

What were your goals coming into the programme? <\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

My main goal was to gain confidence in my abilities to work in <\/span>the industry. I already had the job but<\/span> wanted <\/span>to <\/span>upskill<\/span> in<\/span> what was happening in digital world. There was a wide selection in subject matter and I wanted to see where to focus and specialise in<\/span>.<\/span> Thankfully I <\/span>got the chance to try them all in the diploma.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201c<\/span>While I was studying, the best way to put <\/span>my skills <\/span>into practice, was to be a part-time virtual assistant<\/span>. <\/span>I loved it so much and have stuck with it ever since!<\/span><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/h5>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

I w<\/span>ent down to part time hours<\/span> with work <\/span>supporting me with days off <\/span>for<\/span> study<\/span>. T<\/span>hen whilst learning I made the transition to virtual work<\/span> for my part-time job<\/span>. <\/span>Simultaneously while studying I g<\/span>ot lots of practice<\/span> in<\/span>, using friends<\/span>\u2019<\/span> businesses for assignments<\/span> at NZIE.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

What was your favourite part of the Digital Marketing Diploma? <\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

I r<\/span>eally enjoyed the connection with other students and backgrounds<\/span>.<\/span> I was quite nervous being a mature student <\/span>but<\/span> the tutor relationships <\/span>were<\/span> lovely<\/span> and<\/span> I really enjoyed them.<\/span> Moreover<\/span> I enjoyed the flexibility <\/span>of part-time study. I was <\/span>offered an opportunity to travel<\/span> and <\/span>NZIE allowed me to take the opportunity<\/span> and be flexible with learning. To sum it up they were<\/span> very supportive.<\/span><\/span>\u2028<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

How did you find studying part-time?\u2028<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

It wasn\u2019t as easy as I thought it\u2019d be and required a lot of extra hours<\/span>. Consequently it<\/span> influenced my family time, stress<\/span> levels<\/span> and <\/span>I was met with a lot of <\/span>sacrifice. <\/span>For <\/span>example,<\/span> t<\/span>here is a lot of theory and research involved to help with the practical <\/span>implementation<\/span>. <\/span>Therefore I had to r<\/span>eally listen and tune in<\/span> during class<\/span>. <\/span>On the whole, i<\/span>t was a huge thing to undertake this type of study, <\/span>and a <\/span>major achievement.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

How did you manage your time studying and also working full-time? <\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

That was the best thing about becoming a VA<\/span>. As<\/span> I had control of my time, <\/span>how<\/span> work fit in<\/span>, <\/span>my <\/span>family time, <\/span>and <\/span>study <\/span>obligations etc<\/span>. <\/span>For instance, <\/span>I could get up early and complete my assignment<\/span> and then hang out with family<\/span>. That\u2019s why I decided to become a VA<\/span> w<\/span>hich took place in<\/span> term <\/span>2<\/span> during<\/span> the diploma.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

What was the most valuable thing you gained from your time with NZIE? <\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Confidence! <\/span>Followed by k<\/span>nowledge, practical experience, great support, feedback and connections for business.<\/span> Also m<\/span>y VA specialisation<\/span>, which<\/span> is in social media.<\/span> O<\/span>n <\/span>the other hand,<\/span> I don\u2019t like the technical side as much as the creative side<\/span>. B<\/span>ut <\/span>I <\/span>love the understanding I\u2019ve gained from <\/span>learning these skills in the diploma.<\/span> For <\/span>example<\/span>,<\/span> I am<\/span> able to talk about <\/span>the technical side<\/span> with other experts and<\/span> inform my<\/span> clients<\/span> accordingly<\/span>. <\/span>Furthermore the g<\/span>reat thing about <\/span>NZIE is I<\/span> connected with people <\/span>alike. <\/span>Such as f<\/span>riends <\/span>that <\/span>I<\/span> can call upon to supplement my knowledge or <\/span>to <\/span>collaborate on<\/span> parts<\/span> I don\u2019t enjo<\/span>y.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

What are some achievements, highlights or milestones\u00a0 you\u2019ve reached since graduating?\u00a0\u00a0<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u00a01.\u00a0Prana Therapy Partnership Opportunity\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>

What started strictly as a client relationship turned into a passion project and partnership opportunity. Prana Therapy<\/a> had some funding right on covid and needed some digital marketing work done. While getting into the work we realised there was so much more than we first thought. Namely a website overhaul and improved social media presence.<\/span><\/i><\/p>

\u201cI loved the product so much that I went into a partnership with this business.\u201d<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/h5>

I can build a business with what I\u2019ve learnt at NZIE. And Prana was one of those businesses I wanted to develop further. Especially now that I understand business fully from a digital marketing point of view.<\/span><\/p>

2. Virtual Assistant New Zealand Network Member<\/span><\/b>\u00a0
Moreover, I am now a member of the Virtual Assistant New Zealand Network<\/a> with 1000+ other VA\u2019s. Being a VA can be quite lonely, but I can bounce ideas off other VA\u2019s on our Facebook group. They also host a virtual summit every year. For instance, they bring on guest speakers, host business workshops etc, it\u2019s a great support network and highlight.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Would you recommend NZIE? What\u2019s your last parting piece of advice to new students? <\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Yes I would recommend NZIE<\/span>\u2019s Digital Marketing Diploma. <\/span>I love the flexibility <\/span>and <\/span>being in charge of my own time<\/span> as a digital marketing VA<\/span>.<\/span><\/span> My advice would be to<\/span> pay attention in class<\/span>.
