Why SEO is a good career choice in New Zealand

seo career

If you want an exciting career with great opportunities, SEO may be just what you need. Search engine optimisation or SEO for short is the practice of increasing traffic to websites through natural means. Although this may sound overly complicated and challenging to get into, the path is actually pretty straightforward. Studying SEO through a course has made it easier than ever to become skilled in this field, allowing you to become an expert in an industry in which people are highly sought after.

A career with SEO

More people are considering the field of SEO due to its highly attractive benefits. Of course, one of the main priorities when considering career choices is the salary. That’s why you’ll be more than pleased to hear that SEO pays very well and has many other additional benefits such as more freedom with working hours and working environments. Due to the generally freelance nature of SEO, you are empowered to be your own boss, so you can work from home. This means you can skip the long commute and uncomfortable work attire for a comfortable home working environment.

Types of jobs available in SEO

There is a high level of demand for SEO based jobs, and luckily for you, there are many different options. SEO writers are responsible for researching and writing content for websites that is engaging and optimised, usually with the use of specific keywords. These keywords are heavily included so that the website is favoured by search engines when someone searches for the keywords. So, therefore, this practice allows more of the type of people interested in whatever is present in the website/article to find said website/article. This means there is more naturally occurring traffic (the industry term is ‘organic’) to the website and consequently more interaction with said site. In the context of businesses, this leads to increased profits.

A clear example of why SEO writers are so highly sought after by companies. This sort of search engine optimisation job includes but is not limited to:

  • Writing blog articles
  • Product descriptions
  • Educational pieces
  • Promotional material

Or, if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, you could be a Technical SEO Specialist. This job borrows more in terms of skillset from computer science than journalism (regarding the skills needed for SEO content writers) and allows for a more technical approach to Search Engine Optimisation. These specialists are responsible for building and maintaining SEO friendly websites and are required to have completed SEO courses as well as having a basic coding background. Or you could use the new skills you have learnt through a SEO course and apply it to a slightly different field, such as personal content creation or social media marketing.

Using your SEO skills you can easily promote your content and help those interested find it more easily helping you grow your online presence or personal brand. All of these options show the extent to which you can take your skills in Search Engine Optimisation and all the different ways you can apply your qualification from a SEO course.
