Getting Ahead Before Being Left Behind

While working in an established career in print publishing, Kiki noticed the digital world shifting around her. She felt the need to upskill to stay ahead…and fast! Traditional marketing methods were changing, and businesses were placing more focus on digital strategies. and content to connect with their audiences. Kiki saw an opportunity to future-proof her career in a way that would allow her to take on new challenges with confidence. That’s when she decided to pursue a Digital Marketing Diploma with NZIE.

Throughout her time studying, Kiki learnt core concepts within Digital Marketing – from SEO, email and social media marketing, to paid advertising and website design. She gained a thorough understanding of these subjects and many more! With 8 papers to work through, her plate was full but not overwhelming. Throughout the course, she gained hands-on experience with the latest tools and marketing strategies. She enjoyed being able to get plenty of practice for a real career in digital marketing. Which, as it turns out, wasn’t that far away!

Securing a Paid Internship

A highlight of Kiki’s digital marketing studies was landing a paid internship at Harper Digital. The well-known digital marketing agency (which has taken on many NZIE students in the past) provided Kiki with invaluable work experience. As a result, she was able to put her hands-on learning into practice—working on live campaigns, analysing data, and seeing firsthand how digital strategies drive business results. Having that industry experience on her CV gave her a major advantage, setting her up for future roles in digital marketing.

A Path for Others Considering a Career Change

As her Digital Marketing Diploma studies come to a close, Kiki sees upskilling as one of the best career moves she’s made. The world of digital marketing is always changing, and having the right skills means she can adapt to those changes with confidence.

For anyone considering a shift into digital marketing, Kiki’s journey is proof that it’s never too late to upgrade your skills and explore new opportunities. Whether you’re coming from publishing, graphic design, vet nursing, farming or any other industry, digital marketing opens doors to exciting and in-demand career paths.
