student success story

I gained a lot more than what I anticipated from NZIE because I learnt how to specialise in marketing holistically as opposed to just one aspect.

Cherise is talking about her experience at NZIE

Cherise Fenner

Diploma in Digital Marketing Graduate

Introducing Cherise Fenner, 2021 Digital Marketing Diploma Graduate. Cherise came to NZIE as a business owner who was looking to fill a skill gap. She saw the demand for digital marketing with her clients and tried the agency route. After not having much success with agencies she decided to take control and learn how to do things herself! Cherise is an exceptionally driven individual, with immense determination and grit. As a 2020 part time student with NZIE, she was often juggling work and mum life whilst navigating covid lockdowns. We are super proud to be showcasing Cherise as one of our success stories!

Key takeaways from Cherise’s experience with NZIE:

1. “I gained a lot more than what I anticipated from NZIE because I learnt how to specialise in marketing holistically as opposed to just one aspect.”

In fact, the Digital marketing diploma covers eight core subjects quite thoroughly. See full Digital marketing breakdown here. When you do the programme part-time you get the chance to fully immerse yourself in one subject at a time. On the other hand, full-timers have the challenge of juggling two subjects at once per term. However, they can complete the diploma within one year instead on two.

2. “I could learn while I was applying it so, for me everything fit really well, with having a business and working closely with my clients. Everything I was learning I could apply the next day.”

The level 7 programme has ‘(applied)’ in the qualification name for good reason. Specifically, because NZIE aim to bring a real practical and applied approach to the Digital Marketing diploma. In addition, we’re always making sure we have industry experienced tutors plus regular guest experts too.

“I do events and promotions. There is always marketing involved with the clients I’ve dealt with. It was mainly on social [media].

My partner bought the business, and we went into an agency and got completely ripped off. Like seriously ripped off; zero leads and A LOT of money.

“Then I was like ‘I can do this.’”

There was no one really offering what I wanted out of a Digital Marketing Diploma. There were some short courses. But nothing that kind of fit. And NZIE had the most flexible options at that time. That pretty much covered the whole range so I wasn’t only going to learn just one aspect I could learn the whole thing and gain a qualification too.

For me it fit everything really well. Having a business and working with those kinds of clients. Everything I was learning I could apply the next day.

Since leaving I’ve now started my own business and I’m going to do event management and marketing in an inclusive package which I wouldn’t have had that skillset before studying so thanks NZIE.

I would recommend NZIE for anyone that’s in business, to upskill and save yourself agency fees. And if you don’t have the time, you could always do part time which is what I did and yeah anyone that wants to diversify their skillset 100% yup!”

Congratulations Cherise!

We’re excited to see where Cherise ends up taking her business with her new skillset under her marketing tool belt! If you’re a business owner like Cherise or have previously been burnt by an agency, consider enrolling into our next Digital Marketing Diploma programme.
