Leslie Gunnion is a fitness enthusiastic, devoting several hours a week to the gym. One of his future goals is to be able to use his knowledge in Marketing to set up his own business in fitness, aligning work with his passion.

We asked a few questions to Leslie and would like to share with you.

Why did you decide to come to New Zealand?

I wanted to broaden my horizons in the field of Digital Marketing.  So I had examined courses in Australia and UK but I was unable to find one that was as suitable as NZIE’s Diploma in Digital Marketing. Also, being New Zealand’s first NZQA-approved Digital Marketing qualification made it an ideal choice for me.

How was your experience studying Digital Marketing at NZIE?

I enjoyed my time at NZIE, I made a few friends, who I am still in touch with today and I learnt quite a bit. What I liked most was the fact that the course was very practical and our tutors were marketing professionals who knew the ins and outs of the digital marketing industry here in NZ.

Do you think NZIE Diploma in Digital Marketing helped you getting the job you have now?

Yes. I am currently working as a Marketing Administrator for a company called ENROLMY. I started out as an Intern while I was studying at NZIE. This provided an additional layer of credibility and the fact that I could apply a few skills that I had learnt during my course and get the work done was probably why I was offered a full-time position.

“What I love about digital marketing is that it not only saves time and money but with the correct tools in place you can track and measure the success of a campaign very accurately.”

From the skills you learned at NZIE Diploma in Digital Marketing, how do you apply them in your job? What’s your favorite area of Digital Marketing?

Of all the skills that I was able to improve upon through the Digital Marketing Diploma – Content, Social Media, Search Engine Marketing and Analytics would be the ones that I apply most to my work.  I am currently in love with Marketing Automation!

What do you love about your job and Digital Marketing?

I love the fact that my job enables me to learn continuously. The team that I am fortunate to work with are all superstars and I enjoy their company. And who doesn’t love an office with a foosball table! What I love about digital marketing is that it not only saves time and money but with the correct tools in place you can track and measure the success of a campaign very accurately.

What would you recommend for our students looking to start a career in Digital Marketing?

Get relevant work experience. Look for internships (paid or unpaid) while you are studying, even volunteer if you have to. Your ability to communicate effectively is essential, so work on your communication skills.

Well done Leslie! We are very proud of you and wishing all the best for your future.
