Career Changer: Hospitality to Digital Marketing

Shaun Young found NZIE’s Diploma in Digital Marketing gave him a much-needed foundation in Digital Marketing. This allowed the ‘career changer’ to score a role as Campaign Specialist shortly after completing the course. His passions lie in SEO, Data Analysis, Social Media Marketing, Email Marketing, Copywriting, Digital Design, and eCommerce. He discovered, built and nurtured his skills in these areas whilst studying at NZIE.

Check out the video interview with Shaun, where he chats about his experience studying digital marketing, plus his current take on the digital marketing industry. You can also read the interview transcript below.

My name is Shaun Young. A couple of years ago, I studied for the full-time Diploma in Digital Marketing course.  Now, I’m working at Harper Digital as a Campaign Specialist.

Before commencing the course, I had a look at several other digital marketing courses from different schools.

“I wanted a course that concentrated just on that topic – digital marketing. I found NZIE’s curriculum and it was ideal.”

My favourite tutor was Rajika because of her nurturing nature. She wanted to ensure that everyone felt comfortable and understood the course. Rajika went the extra mile to help.

My favourite paper was SEO, because it discusses site structure. It provided an understanding of how Google ranks keywords and pages. A lot of that is useful for what I do today.

NZIE is a great place for people to start and get a solid foundation for digital marketing. The Diploma delves into all the different topics. Students can then understand which field is of interest to them.

Digital marketing is going to be around for quite some time! It’s constantly growing every day, especially post-COVID. Businesses need to reach more and more customers internationally. The possibilities are almost endless. Not to mention the work opportunities; now people can work from anywhere worldwide.
