Today NZIE’s staff attended Education Agents Webinar COVID-19 April Update 2020 provided by Education New Zealand and Immigration New Zealand. 

Here are some highlights about their response to the current situation: 

  • Purpose of Education New Zealand: 
    To take New Zealand’s education experiences to the world for enduring economic, social and cultural benefits. 
     
  • Manapou ki te Ao:  
    Nourishing and empowering, New Zealand education enables students to flourish and creates the worlds next generation of problem solvers. 
     
  • COVID 19 in New Zealand: 
    – 283 COVID-19 cases confirmed in NZ, 27 cases have recovered NZ is implementing stronger measurements to prevent the spread of COVID 19 
    – The government has temporarily closed the NZ boarders to all travellers 
    – Temporary visa holders including student visa holders can no longer enter in NZ 
     
  • Education New Zealand’s priorities: 
    The health and wellbeing of international students is our number one priority. ENZ is working closely with New Zealand education providers and government agencies to ensure students have the support and information they need. 

    What this means for students 
    Visa advice: Students remaining in New Zealand need to make sure they apply for a new student visa before current visa expires. Visas due to expire between 1 April and 9 July 2020: visas will be extended to late September. 
  • Nau Mai NZ: 
    Support students with mental health, accommodation and health information. 
     
    A three-phase focus for the future: 
     
    1) Stabilise: 
    New Zealand’s international education sector, support education providers and international students. 
     
    2) Transform: 
    New Zealand’s international education sector so that it is fit for purpose for a changed world and more resilient to future shock 

    3) Grow:  
    The sector, seizing the opportunity to shape a high value, knowledge-based sector for New Zealand that’s no longer solely reliant on in-bound student mobility.

Entry Criteria:

To be admitted into NZ Certificate in English Language Level 4 General, all applicants must meet the following requirements:

a) Be a speaker of English as an additional language; and

b) Hold a NZCEL Applied Level 3 [3667] qualification; or

c) Pass an NZIE entry test that meets the requirements for the CEFR B2 requirements or equivalent; and

d) Be of a minimum age of 16 years or older; and.

e) Be a New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency OR Certificate of Refugee Status and evidence of eligibility to study for the duration of enrolment.

Entry Criteria:

To be admitted into NZ Certificate in English Language Level 3 General, all applicants must meet the following requirements:

a) Be a speaker of English as an additional language; and

b) Hold a NZCEL Level 2 qualification; or

c) Pass an NZIE entry test that meets the requirements for the CEFR mid B1 requirements or equivalent; and

d) Be of a minimum age of 16 years or older; and.

e) Be a New Zealand citizen or resident; or have Certificate of Refugee Status and evidence of eligibility to study for the duration of enrolment.

Fees-Free Study.  

You are only eligible for Fees-Free if you haven’t previously undertaken more than 60 credits (half a year of equivalent full-time tertiary education, 0.5 EFTS) at Level 3 or above on the NZQF – New Zealand Qualifications Framework.
